This has been an increasingly interesting year in the fashion industry. Whether it be lace-up details or massively oversized sleeves, 2016 has been a year for statement pieces. Many fashion designers have been making a splash in the industry and are gaining both momentum and recognition.
Victoria Cocieru (Khéops)
Designer Victoria Cocieru is a pro when it comes to the bold, geometric designs Khéops is known for. Bright colors and crochet details are frequently seen in Victoria’s designs. Her entire showcase in Seattle Fashion Week focused on her couture designs in a variety of shades of blue. All of Khéops’ clothes have a futuristic vibe, with a bit of a fairytale feel as well. Her designs are innovative and unusual.
“I just start to imagine lines, I start to make sketches,” said Cocieru. “Most of all I think about geometry, lines, logic, and details.”
Price points are between $45-$919, with tops on the lower end of the scale, and her couture pieces land on the higher end.
Demna Gvasalia (Vetements)
By far one of the most unusual clothing brands on the rise, Vetements has pushed the over-sized trend to new heights. Starting out, Vetements immediately had a signature overly-sized sleeves. As Gvasalia gains momentum in the fashion industry, he’s incorporated “football shoulders” and button-up shirts with only one sleeve. One of the oddest streetwear brands on the market, and a luxury few can afford, Vetements is becoming a major name today. Price points are between $90-$5,470, starting with socks at the lowest point, and outerwear at the highest.
Danielle Guizo
After matching-sets started showing up everywhere, Danielle Guizo was quick to create a fresh take on the trend: a more modern, stylish sweatsuit. After her cropped, earthy-toned sets started blowing up, her line gained major momentum. Printed hoodies, slip dresses and neutral colors are some of the most common traits of her designs.
Seen on celebrities like Amanda Steele, Gigi and Bella Hadid, and Sarah Snyder, she’s well represented in the fashion industry. Price points lie between $10-$320, the cheapest being phone cases and the most expensive being customized bomber jackets.
