Start Birken-stocking up on boston clogs

Birkenstocks have always been popular, but many people now know them for their Boston Clog shoes. Coming into the fall and winter months, the Boston Clog shoe has been a popular staple for many. These shoes have been seen everywhere, including Pinterest boards and TikTok as a trendy and popular item to add to someone’s closet. However, not everyone is a fan of this trend, and many students feel that the shoes aren’t very flattering and are not worth paying for.
“They are not worth the price because you can buy good shoes for a third of the price,” sophomore Kevan Kruse said.
As people consider the cost and realize there may be better options, the opinions of the Boston Clog can be different. Those who don’t want to spend the money find the price point ridiculous. These shoes are $155 on the Birkenstock website, so for those who want to spend the coin, it is worth it.
“I think these shoes are worth the price because I wear them year round…They are of good quality which is important,” sophomore Charlie Walker said.
Though price is a deal breaker for some people, others consider the practicality with the season and the fashion of the Boston Clog worth it.
“Birkenstock clogs are year round, but their prime season is certainly the fall as the colors they have match with the fall season,” Walker said.
However, others disagree with this statement.
“I think they are too warm for the summer but too cold for the winter therefore [they] should not be worn any season,” Kruse said.

There are controversial opinions on how these shoes should be worn as it regards wearing them with socks or without, with shorts or with pants, etc. Boston clogs are worn many different ways and for many occasions.
“I think anything casual would go with this shoe,” junior Olivia Boyes said.“Maybe some Carhartt pants… I would wear longer socks with these shoes.”
There is also a certain person and aesthetic that people believe works best with this shoe.
“You gotta have a granola girl aethstetic if you are going to be wearing them,” senior Ava Stephenson said.
Because these shoes are technically sandals, some people like them barefoot, but others prefer them with socks.
“I think they are only acceptable when you wear them with socks,” sophomore Abby Furr said.
Freshman Jackson Tracy had a strong opinion on this topic because he has been around one particularly infamous Birkenstock-wearing person.
“As one of Charlie’s closest friends I think they look awful on him, and I think he shouldn’t go outside wearing them,” Tracy said.
Many people on Vashon seem to love these shoes and think they are a win. Online reviews echo this, and even though some people think they are impractical, others feel that they can bring a unique aspect to any outfit.
