First Year on Riptide Staff
I grew up in a very liberal household, with a single mom who had a love for writing. So inevitably, writing and news have always been a passion of mine. My biggest passion is social justice, I loved the persuasive essays, and small little discussions in class related to current events. But I wanted to find way to finally put my voice to good use. So at the end of the year, I signed up for debate. I was very excited, but one of my very close friends Solrun Heuschert was taking Riptide, and I remembered the freight I felt on stage versus the bliss I felt writing. I switched out of debate, and into Riptide.
Outside of school, I am on the swim team, and during the summer, I lifeguard at the Vashon Island Parks District Pool. Last spring, I went with a group of teenagers to the Arizona, Mexico border to study border politics for a week. Currently I am not involved in immigration justice, but I hope to get involved again very soon.
I have really enjoyed being a part of the Riptide staff this past month, and I am looking forward to seeing my further improvements this year, and hopefully in the two years after.
