Rants and Raves

Rant: Messing with the locks on lockers

I recently overheard a kid telling a friend how funny it was when he put the lock from one locker onto another locker; this is not okay. The locks on the locker are school property, not a toy for people to mess around with; not only that, but if you switch a lock and can’t switch it back, someone could be shut out of their locker, which probably has things they need inside. Lockers are a space for students to keep all the things they can’t carry around all day or want to leave at the school overnight. They are a privilege, not a right. Don’t ruin it for everybody.

Rave: School spirit

I don’t know if it’s the new planners, or the spread of the RISE program, but school spirit seems to be at an all time high. During the assemblies, the gym actually shakes with the voices of VHS students who actually know the words to the chants and songs. Props especially to the senior class for putting 110 percent towards being loud and spirited despite losing a large chunk of the class to running start. Every year upperclassmen numbers dwindle, but even so, everyone is more boisterous than ever.

Rant: Lazy students!

“I would do it, but I really don’t want to.” Sound familiar? At some point in our lives, all of us have put off doing something until the last moment or just haven’t done it at all; it happens. However, it’s starting to get annoying as it seems to happen more and more often. Make sure to check that you actually don’t want to do something before you turn down an opportunity, you might just be being lazy.

Rave: The new laptops in the library

The days of groaning while a lousy desktop computer stalls and refuses to print the homework due in two minutes are over! Some may not have noticed but the VHS library has changed a lot. Not only are the old desktop computers gone, opening up the library and making it less crowded, but now there is a new set of speedy laptop computers that don’t waste connecting to the internet and sending things through to the printer. Not to mention that there are enough computers for an entire class period. Say hello to efficiency and reliability!
