What’s ASB up to? Let’s have a look

Over the years, the VHS Associated Student Body (ASB) has encouraged school spirit through morning announcements, pep assemblies, spirit days, and other school-wide events. This year, however, ASB is tasked with transitioning the student body back into an in-person environment. Faced with a new challenge, ASB members are not short on creativity and have plenty of ideas to get the school feeling normal again as comfortably and quickly as possible.
As a new year begins, senior co-vice presidents Sam Walker and Katy Kirkpatrick, along with the rest of the ASB executive board and student council, have been working hard to keep up school spirit and community.
“I think this year one of the main goals is to make sure the student body is heard. And we would like to represent each and every student in any way we can,” Walker said.
Kirkpatrick echoed this sentiment.
“I think it’s just important to try to bring together staff and students to make sure everyone’s on the same page,” she said. “We don’t want any secrecy in the building, and we want to be open about what is going on and want all students to feel heard.”
With many students returning to the school for the first time in a while, ASB plans on keeping things simple and sticking to VHS roots.
“I would say this year is already really different in and of itself. And so …we’re just gonna try and get everyone back on track, which just means promoting that same school spirit that I feel like we’ve been lacking because everyone’s been gone,” Kirkpatrick said.
Beyond promoting school spirit, ASB wants to build meaningful connections with all VHS students.
