Baseball
After many new athletes joined last spring, the team prepares to continue welcoming in wins and working on skills this year. Their first game was March 13th, but go and support them at their next home game, March 20th against East Jefferson.
“I am so excited to spend the next few months playing baseball with my friends. We have a really strong, talented team, and I’m honored to be a part of it,” junior Jack Harvey said.
The team is ready for an exciting season full of good games and wins all around.
Girls tennis
The team was trying to build a foundation last year, But there will be more focus on improving technique rather than a foundation this year.
“I’m excited to spend time with my teammates because I love hanging out with them, and they’re so much fun to be around,” senior Myra Butler said.
Butler is ready to spend her last tennis season improving her technique and having a fun, successful season with her teammates.
Boys soccer
The boy’s soccer team is starting the season with 20-25 players all with a shot at varsity and an expectation to make it to state. As they lost some key players last year, they welcome new talented athletes making for a competitive start to the season.
“The freshman class is so strong this year,” coach John Thomas said. “This is the first time in my memory that every starter will have to battle for their starting spot on the field at VHS.”
Track and field
This sport has much diversity in what you can do and work on. Whether you are more goal-oriented or social-oriented, this team brings a lot of support and talent to the table.
“I’m looking forward to breaking five minutes in the mile and running the four-by-four with my friends,” junior Christian Kincaide said.
While focusing on his personal goals, he is also ready to compete and have fun with his friends.
Golf
The team has grown an incredible amount since last year. They have many new, enthusiastic golfers.
“I’m excited to dominate the competition with my competitive spirit and strong work ethic. The coaches are great supporters,” junior Reid Stromberg said.
This is Stromberg’s first year playing golf, and he can’t wait to compete with all of his friends.
Softball
After not winning any league games last year, the softball team is hungry for some wins.
“As a team, we want to win more than one game this year. But personally, I would like to hit a home run at the home field,” said sophomore Morgan Godwin.
While goal-oriented, she also can’t wait for the less important fun things.
“I love doing people’s hair and glitter eye black before games,” Godwin said.
