Welcome to the new year. Last year brought a variety of amazing movies that left everyone wondering what new movies to look forward to in 2023. Luckily, there are plenty of exciting films releasing, so here’s five to look forward to.

May 5, 2023 — “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”

A big Marvel film coming out in 2023 is the third movie in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” trilogy. Still not over the loss of Gamora, Peter Quill as Starlord regroups his team to defend the universe and one of their own. This mission could mean the end of the Guardians if unsuccessful. Will they make it? Other details about this movie are unknown.

May 26, 2023 — “The Little Mermaid”

This movie is a live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated “The Little Mermaid”, starring Halle Bailey as Ariel. Just like the original, “The Little Mermaid” is about a young mermaid who makes a deal with a sea witch to trade her beautiful voice for human legs so she can explore the world above her. There’s been a lot of controversy with this film because the actor playing Ariel isn’t white. Many people are angry about it, which doesn’t exactly make any sense because Ariel isn’t even fully human. She’s part fish. It shouldn’t matter what her skin color is.

June 2, 2023 — “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”

The second and final Marvel movie on this list is “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”. This sequel will
no doubt be as colorful as the first movie in the Spider-Verse franchise and will be just as action-packed. Miles Morales—alter ego Spider-Man—embarks on an adventure across the multiverse—or spider-verse—with a new team of Spider-people. This movie is sure to be the perfect beginning-of-summer film, and many fans are excited to be transported back into the comic book world that Miles Morales lives in.

July 21, 2023 — “Barbie”

Starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, this film centers on Barbie, a doll who lived in Barbieland until she was forced to leave for not being perfect. Post-exile, she sets off on an adventure in the real world, discovering along the way that perfection can only be truly achieved from within.

November 3, 2023 — “Dune: Part Two”

This movie follows Paul Atreides—played by Timothée Chalamet—and his union with Chani—played by Zendaya. Paul also reunites with the group called the Fremen while he seeks revenge against the conspirators who hurt his family, along with learning more about the hostile environment he’s surrounded by.

Mark your calendars and enjoy watching!
