Falling into Fashion

With October approaching and chilly weather rolling in, many people will be bundling up for the fall to come. A few fashion-experts have volunteered what they’re expecting to see this season.

“The trends we’ll see this fall season will be rehashed items from earlier years,” said owner and designer of avant-garde brand, gold., Sam Wyman. “A lot of ‘fashion brands’ seem to be involving old rock tees, and more classic graphics into whatever designs they use.”

Lots of rock tees can be found at stores like Forever21, or for a more genuine feel, vintage band t-shirts can be found at a local thrift store.

The blogger behind fashion blog illusive., Rony Aleman, also weighed in on some styles we can expect to see this fall.

“The oversized trend will most likely continue to the extent where everyone’s sleeves are so long, we’ll all have to learn to write with our teeth,” said Aleman.

An example of the oversized trends is high-end brand Vetements, known for their signature sleeves that extend well past the wrist.

While some styles are more easy to pull off, other trends may require a greater understanding of styling as a whole. Although it’s easy to achieve knowledge about style, it takes time to develop your own unique fashion sense.

“The only way to expand your fashion sense, is by researching,” said Wyman, “I studied all my heroes until my eyes bled. It’s all about what you put into it, so by broadening your mindset, you can broaden your style.”

“[In order to expand your sense of style,] let your heart guide you,” said 19-year-old designer for Nova Supply Co, Clayson Fletcher. “Go shopping where you’d never expect to find pieces.”

Many professionals in the fashion industry have a particular distaste for certain trends, whether it be specific styles, materials, or a typical outfit you’d see while scrolling through your timeline.

“A trend I think should start seeing it’s way out is the cliche Instagram outfit,” said Aleman. “You know, the oversized tee underneath an olive-coloured bomber jacket with skinny distressed jeans… topped with a deconstructed baseball hat, a.k.a the dad hat.”

With the continuing development of social media, it’s very common for specific styles to be identified using certain apps (Instagram, Tumblr, etc.), and these trends can easily grow unoriginal.

With flannels, layers, and vintage-inspired pieces, the upcoming fall will be a great time to cozy up while still looking your best.
