This October, Vashon Island High School will be hosting its first official Homecoming since 2019. The Associated Student Body (ASB) has been planning since September and are excited to announce the return of Homecoming court, a new unique theme, and related activities. Homecoming will take place in the Great Hall of VHS.

ASB voted to have “James Bond: Casino Royale” as the 2022 Homecoming theme. This theme has left many
students speculating what that means.

“The color scheme for the dance will be white, black, red and gold. General decor will include a red carpet, candles, lanterns, poker and card tables, etcetera,” senior ASB co-president Ava Stephenson said.

Polls run by the Riptide Instagram earlier this school year regarding peoples’ plans for Homecoming show that of the students who responded to the survey, 40 percent are going with friends, 28 percent are going with a date, 17 percent not going at all.

“A big part of Homecoming that’s fun is getting dressed up with your friends, going out to dinner before, taking photos, and then having a very fun dance,” ASB co-president Jessica Levin said.

Each class in this year’s Homecoming will have the ability to choose their own individual Homecoming court. Classes will choose pairs instead of individuals this year in order to avoid possible bullying. This also means that ASB reserves the right to change final Homecoming decisions in order to make sure all appointed royalties are comfortable with their position. The first Homecoming you ever attend is a memorable experience because you won’t ever have another first highschool Homecoming. This will be VHS’ freshmen, sophomores, and juniors first real Homecoming due to COVID-19.

“[People] should expect good music, lots of dancing, and lots of fun fancy outfits,” Levin said.
