New Student Intervention Professional

jumps into action after Thanksgiving break

As VHS approaches the end of the first semester, some students have noticed a few new faces around the building, including new student intervention professional, Mandi Wilcox.

Wilcox recently joined the VHS community after working in the Bethel School district. She has been working in counseling since 2014. During her first weeks at VHS, Wilcox says has enjoyed the community of VHS and enjoys the people at the school.

“I like it out here, and it seems like it’s a lot more well-rounded. The kids are a lot nicer,” Wilcox said.

Along with finding the VHS community welcoming, Wilcox also finds working at VHS a bit more manageable than her previous position.

“I felt that [it] would be a better fit for me having the one school instead of three different schools,” She said.

Wilcox is still trying to get used to a new style of teaching and counseling for VHS students.

“It’s [a] different dynamic than the schools that I was at previously. I’m still trying to get the feel for everybody,” Wilcox said.

Living in Tacoma, Wilcox generally likes her commute to VHS every day; finding it relaxing and enjoying the downtime.

“I commute from Tacoma. And I love the water. I would live in the middle of the water, so it gives me some downtime to travel over here,” She said.

Wilcox’s job here at VHS is to inform kids on support they have for drugs and alcohol and provide important information to students.

“I’m the education piece for the kids to have support for drugs and alcohol or if they need information about coping skills and stuff like that,” Wilcox said
