Wrestling
Coached by Anders and Per Lars Blomgren, the wrestling team is looking to take names this season.

“We need to finish better — finish our season, our state tournament, our individual matches, and our takedowns and pins,” Anders Blomgren said. “We will train with this in mind. And we will make it happen. We hope to return as League and District Champs, and then get back into the top 10 at State.”

Anders Blomgren believes his recent relocation to McMurray Middle school as a P.E. teacher won’t affect his ability to coach.

“I feel confident that it won’t play a factor, mostly because Per-Lars still teaches [at the high school]. But I am nervous about the excess load that he may take on,” he said.

Nonetheless, Anders Blomgren is looking forward to his 21st year coaching highschool wrestling this new season.

“I’m super ecstatic,” he said. “I’m optimistic and we feel like we can make a positive step forward this year.”

Boys Basketball
This upcoming year, boys basketball coach Andy Sears is hoping to refine the teams strengths and iron out their weaknesses.

“We are always trying to tweak to our strengths,” Sears said. “Our biggest strengths this year are our post players; we got some great size and skill at those positions.”

Last year, the team was able to hold their ground for much of the season, winning a majority of their games.

“I’m very optimistic. It’s kind of a fun time of the year,” Sears said. “We miss our seniors from last year, a really great group of guys … But it’s also time for some new faces to step up and take a greater role on the team.”

Girls Basketball
2006 VHS graduate Anya Serebryakov is taking on the role of head coach girls basketball team.

“It’s not necessarily [about] how many games [we] win, but it’s just what we take from those experiences” Serebryakov said. “My goal is for the girls to have a family with each other and that they can support each other and grow within the team.”

Serebryakov participated in basketball both during and after high school. She assisted with coaching and took part in personal training.

Having coachined for other schools throughout Washington in the past, she is more than excited to be head coach in her old stomping grounds.

“[Basketball] was a positive experience. I made a lot of good friends through the high school and in college that way,” Serebryakov said.
