ASB Sets Goals For Upcoming Year

Now that school has started, ASB has the opportunity to address the goals they set for themselves during their election campaigns last year. Not only have they recently completed projects centered around homecoming week, but they are also in the midst of planning future dances and spirit events.
This year, ASB plans on tackling more activities than in recent years.
“We definitely are planning on bigger and better things to make [events] more fun,” senior Talia Spurlock, co-student body president, said.
ASB is attempting to hold more events, specifically events that encourage new people to come.
“We’re doing a lot more casual dances, and we want to make them more inclusive of everyone,” Spurlock said
ASB is also working to increase participation in events and school spirit activities.
“[We want] to keep the spirit going even when we aren’t having a spirit week,” senior co-president Alexia Taisey said. “Just finding ways to keep everyone involved throughout the school year is my main goal.”
One way Taisey and Spurlock hope to increase this involvement is through sports games.
“We’re definitely liking something we started this year which is theming a lot of sports games,” Spurlcok said. “Right now we’ve just been doing football, but we [want to] theme more volleyball games [and] soccer games.”
Spurlock plans to suggest a day similar to the field day at the middle school. It would take place at the end of the school year.
“I want to have the whole thing with bouncy houses in the front lawn and face paint and cotton candy,” Spurlock said.
Spurlock emphasized that the event is in the early planning stages, but hopes it will come to fruition later in the year.
Taisey is grateful for the opportunity to lead the student body.
“ASB means a lot to me,” Taisey said. “I’ve had so much fun being a part of it and am happy to see everyone seems happy with the job that [we’re] doing this year.”
ASB is open to student suggestions, as they are always looking for ways to improve.
“I would love everyone to know that they are always welcome to come to Alexia or I, [and] any of the other exec[utive] board members, whether that’s in person, on social media, or through the ASB Instagram to let us know ideas they have,” Spurlock said. “I … want everyone to contribute their ideas on what will make high school a great environment.”
