Football:
The high school football team has played seven games so far this season, suffering seven losses. Their highest scoring game, played against Port Townsend, ended at 13-40. The team is comprised of 29 boys — 17 upperclassmen and 12 underclassmen. The head coach is Clay Eastly and the new assistant coach is Jason Acosta.
Volleyball:
The varsity volleyball team has won seven out of twelve matches and won an annual tournament in Ocean Shores for the second year in a row. JV has fared slightly worse, winning only four out of twelve matches. In total, there are 27 girls on the team, with 17 on JV and 10 on varsity. The team is led by head coach Kara Sears and assistant coach Leah Andrews.
Boys tennis:
There are 22 boys on the tennis team this year, the current varsity team record stands at nine wins, three losses, and one tie. The participants are split evenly between varsity and JV, with 11 on each team. Head coach Pat Mulvihill was joined this season by a new assistant coach, Rick Doussett.
Fall cheer:
This year’s fall cheer team consists of 15 girls, a sharp decline from last year’s 26 participants. Science teacher Elizabeth Gleb, who joined the high school last year after teaching at Fort Steilacoom High School for four years, returned for her second year as the coach. So far the team has cheered at five away games and two home games.
Girls soccer:
The girls’ soccer team began the season with one noticeable improvement — more players. They have a total of 34 girls, with 18 on varsity and 16 on JV. Varsity has won six out of 13 games, tied twice, and lost five games. The varsity team is made up of mostly upperclassmen, who comprise 12 out of the 18 players. Varsity is coached by head coach Scott Nicolino, and JV is coached by assistant coach Michael McMillan.
Cross country:
Nineteen students are running cross country this year, with 13 on the boys’ team and six on the girls’. Eight meets have happened so far, including the only home race of the season, which took place at McMurray Field on Oct. 2. The team’s top finishers are usually junior Cole Parks and senior Garrett Mueller for the boys and sophomore Eleanor Yarkin and senior Lucy Boyle for the girls. Mueller and Boyle are also the team captains. The team is coached by Laura Johnson and Lisa Cyra.
