Football:
Football finished sixth out of eight teams in the Nisqually League. They had two wins and five losses in the league, plus two additional losses outside of league play. The team was made up of 29 boys and one girl, with 18 upperclassmen and 12 underclassmen.
Volleyball:
Volleyball finished the season with two wins and six losses in league play. They were ranked fourth out of five teams in the Nisqually League. They had seven wins and nine losses across all competitions.
Boys tennis:
Boys tennis finished second out of five teams in the Nisqually League. Overall, the team had six wins and four losses. There were 10 Varsity athletes and 10 JV athletes. The team only had four upperclassmen with one senior, Wyatt Keppler. The three juniors were Finley Oswald, Mason Rice and Italian exchange student Amedeo Gallina.
Fall cheer:
This year, fall cheer had 26 participants. All of them were girls, following the trend from the past. This year there were four seniors participating in cheer. With a new coach, these girls had to take leadership positions. Captains of the fall cheer team were seniors Amelia Wilke and Presley Roggenbuck.
Girls soccer:
Girls soccer finished third out of five teams in the Nisqually League, a step up from last year’s fourth-place finish. They had three wins and five losses. They fared much better in non-league play, however, with nine wins, eight losses and one tie.
Boys cross country:
The boys cross country team had 17 participants this year. Senior Gianno Waller was the only boy to qualify for state.
In order to go to state, athletes have to be within the top 14 finishers at districts. Waller ended up placing ninth. His placement in districts secured him a place at state. He traveled to state on Nov. 3 in Pasco, WA, to participate in the 5 kilometer (3.1 mile) race. At state, Waller was running against 155 other boys from around Washington. Although he didn’t place in the top 10, it is an amazing accomplishment to run in the state competition.
Girls cross country:
The girls cross country team was much smaller in numbers than the boys team, with only seven girls on the team, yet they still managed to qualify two girls for state.
Freshman Ella Yarkin finished seventh in districts, sending her to state. Right behind Yarkin in qualifying for state was the girls team captain, junior Lucy Boyle. Boyle finished 11th at districts. Yarkin and Boyle were just .1 seconds apart at the state competition, which is quite close considering the fact that there were 152 runners in the 5 kilometer event.
