2022 winter fashion: comfy chic is in
By Gus McSheehy, Reporter
When temperatures start to drop and the days get shorter and shorter, clothing trends shift. Students gravitate towards more comforting clothes; things that are soft, plushy, and warm; and items that will comfort them through the cold season. Some great examples of these are puffer jackets, sweaters, and Uggs. Many students sport these articles around the school.
Puffer jackets, a true staple for the Pacific Northwest, make their rounds every winter.
“It’s a winter essential for me,” senior Saffron Hinz said. “It’s cute, but keeps you cozy at the same time… and you can make a lot of cute outfits with it.”
Combining style and practicality, puffer jackets have proven themselves as an essential for any wardrobe during the winter time. A drawback from these coats is that they can get pretty expensive with the average price ranging around $100 or more. But it may be worth it; these jackets provide maximum insulation against the harsh cold and are super puffy which makes them comfortable to wear.
“It feels like I’m wearing a cloud,” junior Makayla Joanis said.
For these reasons, it’s no wonder students gravitate towards these coats in the winter. Another staple for the winter time are knit sweaters. They are a true classic that can do no wrong.
“They’re very versatile,” junior Nora Lavigeur said. “They can come in different knits, colors, and I think they’re great!”
Sweaters have been a popular choice among students time and time again, both for their practicality and looks. As Hannah Montana put it, you can get the best of both worlds. Knit sweaters, in addition to being super cute and cozy, are also relatively easy to obtain. If you hit up a local thrift store, there’s bound to be some cute ones there. With something as classic and timeless as knitwear, it’s no surprise sweaters have never gone out of style.
Something that’s coming back into style are Uggs. These shoes have had a major resurgence this season, from last peaking around the 2010’s. .
“They’re just really cute for the winter time,” sophomore Maddie Youmann said.
Uggs, coming from being seen as tacky to one of the season’s hottest, are making a comeback. But not everyone agrees with this Ugg revival, and some still view them as tasteless and impractical.
“You just know their feet are sweaty and stinky… and they’re not waterproof. Just not the best option,” Lavigueur said.
Ignoring the practicality of these shoes, people still choose them because they are super warm, comfortable, and cute. While they fetch for a high price, these once deemed “cheugy” shoes are making a comeback and are becoming a winter basic this year.
There’s a reason why all these articles of clothing are popular, and it’s clear why they’re all winter classics. It’s all about staying comfortable and stylish. Call it comfy chic. So cozy up with a sweater and Uggs, or brave the cold with a puffer, and style up this winter.
